Golden Axe

Golden Axe was the first game I ever played for the Sega Genesis, and I originally played it at my babysitter's house on her husband's game system. He always played with me as Ax Battler, and as an impressionable wee girl I loved playing the badass Amazon chick Tyris. Even though it's ancient and corny and lacks glorified graphics, Golden Axe has always held a special place in my heart...it made me a gamer girl before I was even ten years old! So when a friend of mine suggested I put together a Golden Axe cosplay group for Dragon Con '07, I just couldn't refuse.

This costume was pretty easy to make since it was based off a simple swimsuit pattern. The top did take a bit of fussing with, and I did end up nabbing the underwire cups out of an old push-up bra for a base. I even made the boots myself from a pair of $2 navy heels from Goodwill and a yard of red suede. The sword took a bit of work too, but I'm very happy with how the whole thing turned out! I think what I love the most though is being able to use my own hair, and not having to wear a wig. ^_^
